Minister Oda Renews Canada's Commitment to Africa Partnership Forum Support Unit

July 23, 2010

The Honourable Beverley Oda, Minister of International Cooperation, announced today Canada's renewed commitment to the Africa Partnership Forum Support Unit.

"Canada is pleased to announce a commitment of $500,000 over two years, through the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in support of the Africa Partnership Forum Support Unit," said Minister Oda. "The Government of Canada considers the Africa Partnership Forum an important mechanism for collaboration between African and international development partners in addressing issues such as poverty reduction, economic growth, good governance, and peace and security."

"As G-8 president, Canada was proud to host the 14th Africa Partnership Forum in Toronto in April," said the Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Foreign Affairs. "The discussion focused on development, peace, and security, and was instrumental in informing the agenda of the Muskoka G-8 Summit."

The Africa Partnership Forum was established in 2003, following its endorsement by leaders at the Evian G-8 Summit. It meets twice a year, once in Africa, and once in the country that holds the G-8 presidency.
