A landlocked country in central Asia about the size of Manitoba, Afghanistan is home to approximately thirty million people who belong to various ethnic groups and speak two official languages: Dari and Pashto.

One of the world's most impoverished countries, Afghanistan is slowly recovering from years of war, oppression, and more recently, a devastating drought. For the first time in its history, the wartorn country is led by a democratically elected government.
