The Canadian Human Rights Foundation (CHRF) was founded in 1967 as a non-profit, non-governmental organization (NGO) dedicated to the defense and promotion of human rights through education and the support of training and development initiatives in Canada and abroad.
For the past 20 years, the CHRF has organized an International Human Rights Training Program in Canada for human rights activists from around the world. This training program focuses on human rights law, current human rights issues, popular education techniques and organizational management of NGOs which are active in human rights and democratic development. Through these activities, the CHRF promotes international human rights law as part of the task of constructing pluralistic, tolerant civil societies.
The CHRF also engages in training programs in Central and Eastern Europe, Asia and Africa on issues such as migrant workers' rights, refugee rights and women's rights as well as training for human rights trainers. In recent years, the CHRF has worked with National Human Rights Institutions to strengthen their capacity to fulfill their mandate to promote and protect human rights. |
